GPPCMA Chapter Retreat

July 17, 2017 @ 2:00 pmJuly 18, 2017 @ 3:00 pm EDT

Please join us for the Annual GPPCMA Chapter Retreat!

This year we will take an adventure to the African-themed Kalahari Resorts & Conventions. Kalahari is new resort in the Poconos, approximately 100 miles from Philadelphia. It is home of the largest indoor waterpark in America. Thank you to Kalahari, the Pocono Mountains Visitors Bureau, and the Long Beach CVB for sponsoring this year’s Retreat!

Our schedule is below:

Monday, July 17

2:00 pm – 4:00pm – Community Service Activity

Brodhead Watershed Association – We will assist in a stream site clean up, a 15-minute drive from Kalahari Resort. Transportation details are TBA.

6:00 pm – 8:00 pm – Welcome Reception

Tuesday, July 18

7:30 am – 8:30 am – Continental Breakfast

8:30 am – 12:00 pm – Chapter Retreat

12:00 pm – 1:00 pm – Lunch

1:00 pm – 3:00 pm – Chapter Retreat Team Building Activities

During the morning session at the Retreat, we’ll hear from speaker Steve Gardiner, President of Gardiner Associates. He will present, “Creativity: Solving Problems & Generating Opportunities by Jumping Out of the Box.” In this fast paced, highly interactive session, participants will learn and practice ten techniques to boost their capability to create innovative solutions. Learning objectives:

  • Learn how to double the number of creative ideas from brainstorming sessions
  • Understand how to use NASA’s study on creativity to increase innovativeness
  • Discuss how to use George Lucas and DreamWorks’ techniques to create new services, marketing initiatives, policies and events
  • Learn how to incorporate Toyota’s innovation process in event planning
  • Discover how to create an environment which fosters and does not stifle innovation
  • Experience the Center for Creative Leadership’s most effective exercise which enables attendees to gain new perspectives on current issues and opportunities

In the afternoon, we will have a choice of team building activities.

Gorilla Grove – Multi-level ropes courses enable participants to exercise communication skills, strengthen leadership skills and sharpen problem-solving skills at both an individual level, as well as a supportive team level by challenging you to work together to complete the course.  With several skill levels at Kalahari, participants can engage in a fun, yet purposeful activity allowing you to advance at your own pace.

Indoor Team Building Activities – For those of us who are less likely to be found attached to a ropes course with a carabineer, we will be offering a variety of indoor team building activities including a round of glow-in-the-dark mini-golf and mini-bowling!  Differing skill levels occur in our environments every day so a mini-golf scramble will let team members all hit the first shot. They will decide which is the best shot and then all team members hit the next shot from that spot. This continues until the ball is in the hole. Stroke play counts the number of times the team hits the ball. The team with the lowest total of strokes wins.  A mini-scramble lets each team participant contribute where they can and helps everyone on the team feel like they are contributing!

United Way’s Day of Action – Please bring a grade level reading book to the Retreat. We will package reading level book kits during a break on Tuesday for children who qualify for the Summer Free Lunch Program, Lunch and Learn Concept.
