Global Meetings Industry Day Philadelphia
Courage and Compassion in Tumultuous Times

Times are tough, not just within the meetings industry, but in all aspects of our lives. We are entering into a contentious election cycle with huge, world-changing issues that can seem overwhelming to a meeting professional. Every day a new headline arrives, throwing another problem in our face, seemingly challenging us to do something about it as an individual and as an organization. What role do we play in all of this? Can we actually affect change as a business event strategist?

From the potential of gun violence at our meetings, to the changing landscape of immigration policy, we must learn to tackle these issues with courage and compassion. In this session, we will take a look at these threats, analyze the risk they pose to our industry, and discuss what we can do to address them head-on with empathy and humanity.

Learning Objectives:
1)  Describe the scope of the gun violence and immigration policy issues, and how they can affect the hospitality industry.
2)  Explain what role the hospitality industry can play in shaping the policy to reduce the threat of gun violence.
3)  Discuss how planners can mitigate some of the risks around a shifting immigration policy landscape.
